Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of women (we currently have no male participants!) who knit or crochet shawls, afghans, lap robes and baby blankets for people in need of prayers.

During times of suffering and sorrow as well as celebration, these are a tangible sign of God's love and the ministry's commitment to the power of prayer.

The shawls are given to someone sick, recovering, dying, grieving, healing, or celebrating birth, baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, graduating, wedding, etc.

Since January 2008, when the ministry was started, approximately 20 ladies have knitted or crocheted over 900 shawls. They have been sent as far away as Montreal, Canada, France, the Philippines and Ireland. There is no charge for the shawls. We do ask for a donation so we can buy more yarn and continue making shawls.

New members of all skill levels are always welcome. We have some great teachers for those who are interested in making shawls but still a little unsure of the technique. We meet every Friday at 10 a.m. in Room A & B at the Mary Agatha Furth Center next door to the church.
